Sucess!

Purrs like a kitten. I am even running at near stoich at idle...SMOOTHLY. On the old engine I had to run at about 12:1 to get a smooth idle. Beautiful vacuum signal too! Smooth and strong!

But talk about your Murphy's Rebuild.

1) Thought distributor was 180 out. "Flipped" distributor. Still backfiring. Invoke multiple long and confusing threads on BCF only to discover that distributor was on right to begin with but when lined with marks made at disassembly about 30 degrees off.

2) Injector not firing. Assume bad injector due to dropping on shop floor. Stop by junk yard and buy "new" injector. Learn that I forgot to attach vaccum line to MAP sensor.

3) Get car running but horribly. Fiddle with many things but cannot get to start again. Loose mind and go to bed.

4) Bright and early plug and compression check. Plugs look fuel fouled. Clean plugs. Check compression: 135, 133, 132, 100!!!!! Weep. Check compression again on known good cylinder: 100! Curse Chinese and their temptingly cheap but crappy tools.

5) Attempt start. Nothing. Check for spark. Nothing. Pull cap and check rotor. It turns freely! Pull distributor and pedestal. Distributor has popped out of pedestal!!!! Reassembler with correct o-ring. (duhhhh).

6) Fire car. Starts right up... runs like poo. Check with R2-D2. AFR is at 9:1!!! Examine various gauges. Outside air temperature is -40F. Sheepishly plug in Manifold Air Temp sender.

7) Fire car and smile like devil. Supress urge to weep with joy.

Lesson learned: assembling all the "running" bits of an engine between the hours of 12 and 3AM whilst drinking beer might be a bad idea.

LOL

Reminds me of a funny quote: "Never do anything before two cups of coffee or after two bottles of beer"

Congrats! Now... on to the next project... 5-speed? EDIS?

YAY!! I'm breathing again. Sorry for all the tail chasing!

No, no, Doc. I am the one who started the tail chase. You helped me catch it.

BTW, thanks everyone for all your support on this project. It's been said before, and I will say it again... you guys are the best!

Very, very cool!

Now, when you get it all worked out, we need more info on your Megasquirt project. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
