I saw that in today's paper.

All that matters is what they'll do to/with the marque. Is this good news for the Volvo purist?

How do you say Volvo in Chinese??
 
In the end I think this will be good for Ford. They seem to be re-focusing on their core identity with a good run of products under the Ford name.

As for the Chinese? Well, they have the resources (ie cash) that most don't these days. They certainly want to succeed, so it should be interesting to watch.
 
I truly hope it benefits Ford. Ford didn't take the bailout money, I'll always remember that. Great company, great management.

Glad I didn't sell my Ford stock, too. :yesnod:
 
In other news...the latest Cessna is being built in China too. Doesn't mean this stuff isn't going to be decent but, eh - doesn't sit well.
 
Folks, I have deleted a couple of comments here. If we want to discuss this news item, that's fine, but please do so without engaging in the stereotyping of folks by making fun of their speech, etc. Fact is, we have some members here married to persons of Chinese decent - nuff said.
 
In the larger scope, it had less to do with the Volvo name than the access to the technology the Chinese are so desperate to gain. The platforms and engines are way ahead of what they are producing. The hold up on most sales usually have to do with what technology the Chinese are gaining and what they are not.

Beware of the idea the Chinese are rolling in money, they are producing a lot of paper and buying our bonds on their way over inflated money. If you read, there are many who say over 70% of Chinese industry require goverment money to keep running. This is a huge drain on the economy and the fact they import so many resources leads one to beleive their debt is just hidden

They survived largely on selling Mazda back to Mazda of Japan bit by bit. Its all said and done now, so Mazda is purely Japanese again. Great tactic by Ford, IMHO. And Congratulations to Mazda as well. Zoom Zoom and all that. Soon as an RX-8 comes along at the right price, I will have one sitting in my Driveway... but sadly the keys will be in my Wifes pocket.

The worst one so far I think has got to be the Chrystler to Fiat move. They might as well hang it up now, as they seem to only be prolonging the inevitable. Might have been a better move to part them selfs out to Kia of Korea, but I doubt that Kia would bother with them.
 
I agree, Pete. I'd also be willing to bet that Chrysler will be dead before too long.

We'll see . . .
