This has always been one of my favorite Volvo models. This one I saw in the Smith's parking lot today. Paint looks original (faded with some rust and rough interior). I was carrying bags when I took this with iPhone so excuse the finger in the upper left corner.\

Those are *great* looking cars. Always wished I could have had one.

Maybe .... nah

And some of them were made in England! A good OD unit in there also.

And SU carbs as well, which I think they kept until they went to fuel injection in the early 70s. The made in England story is not really a happy one as coach builders Jensen put the cars together for them (as well as stamping the body panels I think) and Volvo was not happy with the build quality, so took over themselves.

But yes, these have been on my want list a long time too, I like the Estates with the glass rear door.

I had a 544 and it was a good car. The 544 had around 66 hp, but the 1800 had around 100 hp. Would loved to have put an 1800 engine in it, but even back then a used 1800 engine was at a premium price. Just discharged from the Navy it was out of reach. A friend is restoring a 544 now. PJ
