I bought a Kimdrox DC-DC adjustable regulator (solid state) to replace the original unit with which I was having trouble. Amazon $7.29 including shipping. Chinese of course. Seems to work great. I started up the engine and when the thermostat opened up (which I could see from the movement of the gauge) I adjusted the regulator so that the gauge read 160 deg. The gas gauge is also now reading properly.
You will have to rig up a mounting using 4-40 bolts.
A bonus is that the LED reads battery voltage for which we do not have any indications.
 
Yes, that's the one. Tie the green wires (feed from fuse and whatever else needs battery voltage) to the input plus, tie the input minus and output minus to chassis ground (neg ground of course. for pos ground, I'm not sure if it will work) and tie the feeds to the gauges to output plus.
Mount with standoffs and 4-40 screws. Back out the small potentiometer screw to reduce output voltage.
By the way I also went solid state with my Overdrive relay. ebay search for
SSR-25DD Single Phase Solid State Module Relay 25A DC 5-60V T1

around $4.00 quiet and reliable.
