I'm stumped once again. Here's the situation: while driving my BJ8 the other day there was an odor that smelled like wires burning. Nothing smoking but I checked the output of the voltage regulator at the warning light terminal and got readings as high as 16 volts. The manual says I should have no higher than 15 or so. So, Ok, I'm burning up my electrical system. (The dash lights sure are bright!)
I installed a new regulator and flashed the wire from the regulator BAT lead to the generator for good measure.
The red generator light on the dash wouldn't light so I started testing the output of the voltage regulator. While doing this the regulator smoked up badly. Got myself another regulator and still find no voltage from the WL terminal. If I plug in the old regulator I get a voltage reading.
I've converted to negative ground. Don't know if that has affected something.
Any suggestions?
