The voltage across an inductor is V=Ldi/dt. It is not about how fast the current is flowing as all current flows at the same rate. di/dt is the rate of change of current (amount not rate). When the points of your ignition open the di becomes very large as the current in the primary colapses over time.
 
You be absolutely right. And as I said before the faster that curent is changing the higher the voltage. I just did not want to put a phisics lesson on the forum.---Keoke
