Wedge Volo TR8

Wonder how much more money you have to put into it to get it running. TR8s do not like to sit. I am in the middle of restoring my third low mileage TR8 that has sat for years. Give me a high mileage often driven example any day. A few years ago I delivered a Persian Aqua TR8 to a shipper in Newark destined for Australia. It only had 5,100 miles. Pretty time capsule of a car, but it needed everything to be rebuilt. No chance it was starting and driving onto my trailer. When I got to the shipper, there were three other TR8s including a white coupe going to the same place. The shipper said he was waiting on several others as well. Here is a link to that car still for sale down under.

I agree, I'm about to turn 20K on BB and after sitting for 13 or so years the list keeps growing. Could have probably done better with a higher milage less expensive example, but she stole my heart.

I picked up a non running TR8 that has been off the road since 95 a few weeks ago. Surprisingly this car has been very cooperative. Did the obligatory hydraulic rebuilds and the fluid flush and drain thing. After installing a fresh battery, priming the fuel system and oil system, and a squirt of starting fluid, this thing fired right up and kept on running. Spit a couple of times and then settled into a nice idle. Haven't seen a stock carbed TR8 run this well in years, and here is a barn find that runs like a top. After the initial startup, I noticed a huge puddle of oil under the car. Turned out to be the oil pump gasket; probably why it was parked in the first place. EZ fix! Just about everything on the car worked as it should right from the get go including the clock and the seat belt buzzer. Now I'm onto the bodywork and then a silver repaint. Should have it looking as good as it runs by the end of September. I'll spend the winter detailing engine pieces and what-not.

I also go to Volo every so often. It's a fun place to visit, lots to see - not just cars. I think their cars may tend towards the higher end of the price scale but not overly so. They have been in business a long time and moved numerous cars. I have never heard bad things about them or their cars, but I have not bought anything from them either.

I have a few neighbors who have dealt with them, a Mustang fan and a flathead fanatic, they've said pretty much the same thing, higher on the price, but no problems or regrets. I like the military displays they updated a few years ago. Between the auto museum and the antique shop it makes for a fun day. Always a good gauge for the collector business, and gives me a chance to dream on-line or in person. Chicago Classic Cars is another of my on-line favorites, but I've never been there. Both sites offer a TR every now and then.
