Such leaks will cause erratic running at low rpm and small throttle openings. but will not make any difference to the full throttle operation of the carb, so will not affect power. There ya go, I got the headache.
Remember when I said no idle below 1300 but super good over 2000, pulled nice in second and had lots of smooth power.
I just knew that if I looked awile I would find an athorative source. Not that I doughted the comments here. Just nice to know the whole story. Good stuff in that book.
