On 21 April 1926, a baby girl was born to an English couple.

She was standing on the balcony (in uniform) with her sister and parents, and Mr. Churchill on Victory in Europe Day, 1945.

When her father unexpectedly died in early 1952, she became Queen of England. She was crowned Queen on this date, June 2, 1953.

She has likely met more heads of state than any living person. Today she celebrates sixty years on the throne - the longest period of time of any living head of state. (thanks Roger).

Congratulations to her and to the Commonwealth of Nations. Vivat Regina.

I still have the Royal mint issued coin set from 1953 to celebrate Elizabeth II coronation. My dad gave each of us (my brother and me) a set.

I have always thought she was a lovely woman and a decent human being.

You sure about that bro? Look at that crazy alien head w/ brain pin she has on....:eeek:

No doubt a communicator link to the mothership.

About 20 years ago she visited Singapore while my wife and I were living there.
We went to the Garden Party at Eden Hall, just down the road from where we lived and so got to meet her, albeit briefly.

A day or two later we went down to the dockside during the evening she was leaving Singapore on the Royal Yacht Britannia. You probably had to be British to get the full flavour of the departure. There had been a dinner on board the yacht, and the band played as the dignitaries all went ashore. Then the Queen and Prince Philip stood and waved at the hundred or so of us on the quayside, the band played Rule Britannia and other "Last Night of the Proms" music as the yacht undocked and left harbour escorted by a Royal Navy warship, and still they stood and waved. It was quite something.

Despite the sometimes extraordinary behaviour of members of her family, she hasn't put a foot wrong in all her years.

I remember watching the coronation on TV back in 1953. It had been telecast live in the UK; we watched the film on the evening news (WBAP, Fort Worth TX), on our 10" Admiral console model.

Elliot - that is quite a souvenir. By the way, speaking of Old Boss, Moorhouse is my family name. First American generation came from Huddersfield to America in 1633.
