After getting re educated to the Vista Ultimate OP system, it's showing some promise. I finally figured how to shut down some of the features I don't need, or want, but yet, keep some of the security features needed. The new mail program is much nicer than the older Microsoft Express. I do like the added security features in it. Seems they plugged more holes,(for now anyway)! I wouldn't buy Vista to put in my other machines as the requirements for the system are too high. I have Linux core in one machine now and like it for it's speed. Speeds up the old computer very well. ME in the lap top. Hmm, serves it's purpose and I won't change it. Just throwing out some thoughts. PJ
 
I just put Core 6 on an Intel board machine to become the new server here at Chaos & Mayhem Pty., LTD.

Scalded dawg fast. Vista has been promised to be the most secure Micro$oft O/S to date: At what *cost* is my concern. It's just a bigger resource hog as a result, is my only conclusion.

Firefox and T-bird. ANY e-mail proggy other than Outlook...

I just REALLY resent the idea of turning the internet into a MicroSwuft serfdom. Or allowing it to happen by default.
 
I've been using Vista for a couple of months. It works ok - the system has never hung up and performance seems a little snappier than XP on the same machine. It's a fast computer with 2 gig memory and Vista seems to use the resources better than XP.

I don't know about security - we never had trouble with XP in that regard. I think MS did a poor job, though, since the new security features are so intrusive - in the Business Edition anyway - that they make it hard for me to use my own system. We don't use IE or Outlook, so I can't comment on those.

And - just when I started using the "My Documents", "My this-and-that" scheme, they went and changed it.

I like the interface appearance better - it doesn't look like it belongs in a nursery school any more - but that's just cosmetics.

All in all, XP was better for us and I won't convert any more machines to Vista. We needed one for testing so had no choice. I suppose we'll move to it over time anyway as we replace hardware.

I tried Outlook '07.... absolutely hideous, but maybe it's so bloated my aging P4 can't handle it. I switched to T-Bird for the far superior junk mail filters anyway.
