Roll bars? We don't need no stinking roll bars.
 
What surprises me are all the guys racing with their spares on the backs of the cars (Morgans?)...You would think that they would want to remove the added weight. Maybe someone knows the answer....was the tire left on for a purpose to weight the back end down to keep it from swinging out?

Thanks for posting that.I collect items from the
'56-'57 races @ McKinleyville @ the Eureka/Arcata Airport.
I've got a few pictures & slides from the events.Maybe Doc
can post some here?
Our "claim to fame" is that William Snell was killed here
in '56,which started the "Snell Foundation",for helmet standards.
- Snell did not have a roll bar in his car.When I saw a picture
of it,it kind of sent a chill down my spine.

Thanks so much for posting. There's some very serious iron being tossed around that track. I cringed when the XK-120 roadster whacked into a barrel. Yikes!

Loved the two guys trying to navigate the T-Bird around the track.
