Vintage Crash

Scott,

Agreed. This will just turn into a Ford vs. GM arguement. I'm a die hard Buick guy myself, for my money no American iron can beat a 65 Buick Rivy GS. I did like McQueens mustang in Bullit.

Walt, so you like Buicks huh? Thats cool, they built some kick ass cars back in those days. The 65 GS was the one with the funky headlight covers that opened like eyes right? I think the big dog motor was the 425, something like that? Nice cars, big, comfortable, and enough torque to tear the tires right off the rims.

The car McQueen drove in Bullit was a highland green 68 GT with a 390. There were two cars used for the movie, one was a GT the other was not, so all the badging was removed from both cars so you couldn't tell the difference. They also had custom wire mesh grills with the pony removed and ET wheels. Funny, they forgot to remove the GT rear valence on the one car, so in a few scenes you can tell which one is the GT when you see the rear. The car that did most of the stunts was beat to crap at the end of the production, and went to the crusher. The other car was in decent shape supposedly and was sold to someone who worked on the set, who then sold it to a guy here in NJ. Apparently, last I read, he still has the car and has turned down hundreds of offers from people to buy it, for big bucks I'm sure. Rumor has it McQueen himself tried to buy it a short time after the movie was released, but the guy wouldn't sell. The car is sitting in a barn somewhere in north Jersey rotting away.

Yeah the 425 was the good engine. In Gran Sport form it came with a mildly hot cam, and dual intake manifold with two four barrel AFBs on it. They crank out 465 lb ft of torque at 1800 rpms. Yeah the rivy is the one with the headlight covers that flip around. I always thought they were gorgeous cars. When I was little my dad and a 65 Wildcat in GS trim, it was a blast. And it did have enough torque to eventually twist an axle in half. It was supposed to become mine when I was 16, but when I turned 14 my mom talked him into selling it because she thought I'd get hurt in it. NOOOOOOOO!!!!! Since then I decided to set my sights on a Riviera.

Yeah I remeber that one of the cars in Bullit was completely trashed after the filming, and you can see that during the chase scene that one of the cars is getting hammered.

just so there is no mistakes, there WAS a green flag, I was working alpha corner, and said to my corner mates, green flag,, f*** Red flag
