TR2/3/3A Video - Serious TR3A Accident near Toronto

That is a very hard hit in a car with no energy absorbing front end. That straight steering shaft is always is a concern for me in a driver front collision.

Man, that really sucks. Try as hard as we do to avoid situations, the fickle finger of fate will still strike. One of the reasons I decided to forgo authentic and add 3 point tension belts, headrests and high 3rd brake light. But, some fool may still prang me no matter how hard I try to avoid.

Don: Is the driver a member of one of the Canadian TR clubs? Man that is horendous. Looks like part of the engine sitting in front of the car!

Dart, even though you have forgone authentic on your car with the headrest, seat belts and 3rd brake light this will not be counted off in concours because they are safety devices.

This is the Monday morning report on Robin Searle, owner of the BRG TR3A that was side-swiped by a hit and run "tuner" on Sunday morning. Robin is an active member and former President of the Toronto Triumph Club. He restored his TR3A himself in 1991. He has won several 1st places in concours events. He was on his way back from the MG and TR "Spring Fling".

Robin is holding his own right now.

1) Robin is in St. Michaels, not Sunnybrook as the news media have stated.
2) He is still in an induced coma, but he is holding his own.
3) He has a plate in his left arm.
4) he has some broken bones in his back, but his spine is OK.
5) he has 4-5 broken ribs on his left side.
6) he has pressure bandages on his legs for circulation and is being seen by a physiotherapist.
7) SEAT BELTS SAVED BOTH OF THEIR LIVES!!!!!!
8) Robin's wife Ria is staying near St. Michaels Hospital with friends.
9) Ria's injuries are mostly on her right side and Robin's mostly on his left side.

Thanks for the update Don. We discussed this at our Ottawa Triumph meeting this evening and were not sure what Robin's condition was. Appreciate the news.

Just a little bit more on this; according to news media the driver of a tractor trailer was charged with making an unsafe lane change and leaving the scene of an accident. The truck and driver were in Burke's Falls, a long way from the accident on highway 400.

As I recall from sitting in Robin's car, he has only lap belts, as I have in my car now, with those low-cut doors on the 3 I am glad they were wearing the belts!

Wishing Robin and Ria a full and speedy recovery.
