To all veterans - thank you for your service!

And if any BCFrs are near Boston, check out the American Heritage Museum in Hudson.

Where else could you get a chance to actually drive an M4 Sherman tank?

Thank you vets!

Some people follow the poppy tradition in the USA, but usually only on Memorial Day (last day in May), to remember those who lost their lives in wartime.

Here's a Daily Mail article on disabled WW1 vets making the "Flanders Field" poppies in a factory 100 years ago - 1922.

Many of the original set of workers were severely disabled vets:

I wish we in the USA would follow the British tradition, and set aside at least a minute of silence each year, to remember those we've lost.

Canada is much more like Britain in this respect - very much poppies and two minutes silence. There will also be services at cenotaphs (war memorials) About 10 minutes ago I watched a fellow walk past my house in full dress uniform - kilt and all. I presume a piper but, nice to see. We also don't have veterans day sales at all.

Our local Veterans Park cancelled ceremonies for yesterday out of concerns over remnants of storm Nicole. Plenty of folks were at the park anyway.

Speaking of Veterans, just a reminder, if your are an Apple user, Apple has a special section for Military and Vets when you can get (usually 10%) off pretty much every product they sell. This is not just for Veterans Day, but year round. From the Apple site, just scroll to the bottom and look for the Military/Veterans link.
