Very nice but maybe a bit pricey

I sold a little '60 Bugeye vintage racer this summer that had a similar paint scheme but retained the stock (unpainted) grille. I really liked the look!

The car went to California and should be running at Willow Springs next spring.

If you like the look and want to see more photos for inspiration, go to:

and follow the Bugeye links.

Oh, I like that. It got towed around on my trailer.

Very pretty!! My first BE (58) was black when I got it and I repainted it a Corvette medium-blue metallic paint with a white stripe just like on that racer. She was a real looker!!

Donn, just let me know when you are ready for those stripes! I would go with just a fraction narrower stripe than on that white car (Check how the stripe dips into the shape in front of the headlights - I don't like that!)to avoid what I just described! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

I guess I just get a little sensitive when folks too liberaly equate "non-original" and "poor attention to detail" in the same sentance, and give little thought in doing so.

Sorry for the diatribe.

I could not agree more, well put!!!
I look on this car as a recreation of a 50's airport racer style hot rod. Something some guy would have done to his new car back in the day, a bit of mild customising if you like. So what? It's not like he drew a moustache on the Mona Lisa! This is what happened to thousands of these cars over here: they were played with, used up and thrown away. A great time was had by all and today we can look back at those carefree days as in this car or pay homage to the original car a la Jack and the many other restorers. I love them both and there is room for both in our hobby too.

Woo hoo! Spridget controversy!

Personally, I think it's fun sport to pick apart ebay cars esecially when they have a BIG price tag. But good for this guy for asking $20K! Why not?! The first rule of sales is you'll never get it if you don't ask. Do I think he will get it... nah! Ebay isn't the place. He would have much, much better luck at a big car show or auction. People look for deals on ebay.

Back to the car. Personally I don't like the red grille. Makes the lines look weird to me. But other than that and the rusty shifter, looked well executed in the photos. Again, as much as I like concurs cars and can admire the work put into one. I don't think I would want one. I would much rather have a resto mod. My bugeye is going to have a 1275, disc brakes and other goodies. Same with my B. It's customized too! Heck the engine is green with lots of chrome! lolol! I love it and it does VERY well at shows! And I also get loads of pleasure from driving it. On the other hand, I like when LBC's look like LBC's. Too much customizing doesn't sit well with me. I guess I like "sleeper" customizing. Stuff that makes you go... "oh yeah!... that's kinda neat". Or things that improve performance.

But knocking the guy, 'cause his engine isn't the proper shade. so what. It's not like he was representing the car as a concurs resto.

That's true, and the high asking price was probably due to the poor fellow trying to recoup his cost of parts and services. If the seller built the car his labor is free, that might explain the rusty shifter and the other non-professional details. He'll learn, eBay can be a brutal place sometimes!

Heck, from the looks of it, he could have used a little Bar Keeper's Friend on the shifter and no-one would have said a word! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

I don't think anyone was really knocking the car. It's this price vs what is for sale.
