TR2/3/3A Verticle Link to Trunnion Fitment

Hi guys,

Another quick question. Just re assembling the front suspension on my 59 3A.

I have assembled the verticle link with the brake caliper mounting plate attached but I'm thinking this may not be the way to go. I'm finding that when I go to screw the verticle link into the trunnion the bottom of the caliper plate fouls on the steering stop location (steering stop removed) before I can thread the verticle link to the bottom before backing it off.

So, do I need to assemble with the caliper plate off and attach it later?

Cheers

I think you'll find that it won't go another full turn even without the caliper bracket installed. At least for me, the threads have never actually bottomed; instead the link hits the protrusion for the steering stop.

Thanks for the reply Randall. I haven't bent the locking tabs yet on the bolts, so I'm going to pop it off and see how much farther it will go down just for fun. Just reading the manual and it looks like they are suggesting to add the caliper mounting plate after the verticle link is installed.

Cheers

I was able to turn it down about another 2 1/2 turns after I took the caliper plate off before backing it off to get a full swivel lock to lock. I feel much better about it now as the trunnion grease seal is now slightly compressed...before, there was quite a gap there.

Interesting. I wonder why your mounting plate extends down so much farther than mine does.

I couldn't remember how far the disc brake mount extended...but I knew for sure the drum brake backplate interferes.
