Vent window post removal question

Trying to remove the vent window post from both doors of my 78 MGB. I've removed all the screws and can move the whole unit up and down. At the bottom of the post is a plate for a screw that hits the regulator when lifting up. Does the regulator need to be removed?

the only time I've pulled my vent windows I pulled the regulator too, so I don't know.
 
You can get the vent post past the regulator inside the door if you a) remove the rear window track, then b) remove the door glass and then c) unbolt the rear-most vent window post (which is also the front track for the door glass)from the bracket that holds it to the door. It's a knuckle buster to get it off that bracket but it can be done.
 
Just removed mine ... and it was a challenge without removing everything else. I did about what Jack suggested as I didn't want to remove the regulator. (although know it will eventually come out) I undid the rear track and slide the window to the rear position. I might have rolled the window glass up and then wiggled the vent assembly around getting it to the top before rolling the glass back down. Then turning it to get the "L" shaped "foot" for lack of a better description out of the slot. It came out and everything else is still in place.

Now for my question: How do I remove the glass from the track without removing everything from the door? Does it roll off toward the front or back somehow?

Once you get the back channel out and the vent window assembly out, pull the window glass up and to the rear. Tip the rear corner up as far as it can go. The rear roller in the regulator should slide out through the gap in the middle of the track. Then tip the front corner of the glass up, and the front roller should fall out the same way.

Don't ask me how to put them back, I've not gone there yet but suspect it will be a treat!

Very simple..."replace in reverse order of removal" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Sorry...I couldn't resist that...but it is true. Just a tip to make it easier: Loop two pieces of string down under the track, front and rear, leaving enough room to slip the glass inside the loop and use the strings to steady the track while inserting the glass. Or have a small helper to hold the track from underneath while you work with the glass from above.
