Vent window attachment

I am reassembling my doors after a repaint and am having a devil of a time getting the lower vent window bolt on the front edge of the door started. These are the bolts with the "barrel" head that go through the large holes under the plastic covers on the front door edge. I got the top ones in pretty easily but the bottoms are giving me fits. Short of splicing an extra 2 inches into my fingers, what's the secret?

I use a short 2" socket extension & a magnetic socket...but that's usually the last bolt I install.

Or... if you don't have a magnetic socket... Get a condom (no jokes this actually works /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif ), poke a small hole in the end of it... put the bolt into a socket on an extension, and pull the condom over it so the pinhole stretches over bolt but shows the starting threads. hold the condom tightly and... Get the bolt started but not completely tight... Remove the condom and procede with tightening the bolt.

Ok, let the jokes begin, but this DOES work. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I was gonna suggest a ten-year-old kid...

why... what do you mean? you can't use a used condom for this trick?

eeeeewwwwwwww!

S'pose ya ~could~ ....

...If ya don't mind sticky tools.

On second thought...

What a creative suggestion! I'm stopping by the Rite-Aid this morning for the proper tools. I wonder if BL had a "special tool" designator for these on the assembly lineh

My wife suggests trying a finger from a medical type rubber glove. Even a used one should be OK!!

Use a deep 1/4 inch drive socket and a short extension. Works fine. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif PJ
