TR4/4A Vent lid fit......is this acceptable?

In the process of fitting the vent.
Have not fitted the internal spring as yet....replacement new rubber seal is fitted.
I am concerned that the lid is not going to close flat, and will protrude above the panel.
The spring will bring the lid down slightly.
Was this the case ex factory?

You have cause for concern as something does look off. Is the seal completely down? The springs do have some good pressure and may solve your problem. Hope so.

I recall (but not actually experienced this) prior threads where a replacement seal was either too thick or too stiff to allow full closure. The solution for some was possibly trimming the seal - but a search may turn up the full story.

I replaced the seal on my car several years ago, fits the same, not very well.

There were some seals on e-bay a while back that worked fine, they were thinner, i used one with success.

Put something on the body to protect the paint and then put some weight on top to compress the seal. A couple of bricks will do. The seal on my TR# was not quite as high as yours, but once I did this it looked much better.....and has stayed that way.
