Vauxhall Steering Rack Question

So, I've got the steering rack on the workbench and hopefully weasel p*ss is doing its magic on the ball joints. The manual says don't even try to open the rack which I agree with! However, it does say I need to use 1/4 cup of the gear oil the recommend before I put it back on. Here is my question. Is it worth sloshing solvent around inside and draining before I add oil or do I just add oil?

thanks all

Maybe not a harsh solvent, but I'd say kerosene (a light oil) would be OK to slosh & drain in there before refilling with gear oil.
