Valve cover ??

A goofy question but it might save me dragging all over
San Juan spending $20 in gas trying to find a fifty cent
washer I might not need.

My chrome valve cover huffs and puffs thru the three
securement studs and lock nuts with lock washers.
Banjo informed me this DPO set up was wrong. Golly,
can you imagine that?

My question is simple. I see I need a fiber washer and
a flat washer. Banjo brought me a small sheet of gasket
material that is resistant to gasoline and oils. Can I use
this material to cut out these 3 fiber washers? I don't
really know what a fiber washer is but I can guess the concept for it. Photo of existing that puffs oil all over
my valve cover.

Thanks

Is THAT all they are, Bill?

Well it's good I asked. I'm going over to Home Despot
in a while for some paint and house stuff.

A plumbing washer, indeed!! I probably have some at home.

Thanks for the fast response.

The answer in a nutshell, is yes you can cut the gasket material.

Why not just order the WF508 fiber washers from TRF and put a little sealer on either side and forget about them leaking for good?

If they've been OK to drive the car up until now, what's the rush? Take a little more time and do it right.

Bill's idea is good too! I was late in clicking submit.

Somewhere I stumbled on this. Just order the Spitfire washers and install them with no sealer and forget it. I have been using them for a couple years with no leaks.

Even tried the concoction that came with my silicone gasket and went back. Simple, easy, and readily available.

WASHER, rubber #071-092 $0.95
WASHER #072-020 $2.85

2 sets are needed because the Spit only has 2 studs.

Paul, you forget where I live. One month delivery is usual
for my TRF orders unless I pay a gazillion bucks for "foreign
country) Fed-X. Would YOU pay about $10 each for those washers, including delivery?

I've already got the rubber washers from Home Despot.
Amos will be back in the street by sunset Monday.
Thanks for the tip Bill.

I have a functional car now that I want to drive.
My time of months and months on jack stands and weeks
and weeks waiting for parts is over with.

It's been a long time arriving but it's my time to
drive my TR6 now.

Vroom, Vroom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dale if your close to a Honda motor cycle dealer the Goldwing uses a chrome washer with tapered rubber washer glued to it.Part number 90541-371-000 @$3.40 each,up here in Canada, look good and no leaks. Then use a chrome acorn nut see mine at picasaweb.google.com/pimento6/TRPics

Dale;
Don't buy Honda motorcycle washers, just ask and I'll send you about a half a dozen from my box of goodies here.
They come free of charge in some kits and never get used.

Yo David!!

Send them on down but it will be a swap.

One large bar of traditional Spanish almond
Christmas brittle candy will be on the return
post.

It can't be a PR Christmas without almond brittle!!

Justin Wagner's silicone gasket comes with bonded rubber sealing steel washers for this purpose. Also available at FL hardware (i.e. NOT Home Depot) store.

Dale... A bit off topic here but I didn't want to start another thread. You had said that towing in PR is a big bite. I just discovered that I have AARP "old f*rts" insurance. I have towing and it says that they cover PR. Might want to check it out. I'm just guessing here that you just might be over 50 years old.

Valve cover oil leak and huffing and puffing cured.
Also, the tapping valve is now quiet.

TrBill- Thanks for the Permatex install advice; Bill- thanks
for the rubber grommet advice; PeterK- the silicone gasket
will have to wait until next year. The Mrs. not very happy
with my outlays of dinero this past year.

Banjo/David- the tapping valve is now quiet and the car once
again purrs at 850 rpms. Thank you both for your fine work.

regards all,

d

Stop looking for work to do on the car and drive it!!!!!

I got into this late, but yrs ago on my sprite motor in the same situation I took a thick piece of leather, cut washers out of that and it worked fine.

I'ts funny you say that Paul, cuz when I pretty much finished my car. I missed working on it & just started ripping things apart to make myself busy!

Maybe I need a new project!

Rainy season and been raining quite a bit. Good
opportunity to do a little oil leak maintenance.
Valve cover now installed properly.

I expect to have Amos in the street later this afternoon,
if it ain't raining.

hey dale, here is a trick for you, use the cork gasket but soak it in oil overnght. sounds strange, but it works to seal it up and stop oil leaks.......dunno why, maybe the cork swells? no idea, anyway give that a shot and dont over tighten.
