Valve Cover Replacement - Torque Specs

I want to replace my valve cover on my 69 Midget with one of the alloy ones and was wondering what is the valve cover torque specifications for a Midget? Should I use the standard cork valve cover gasket or is there something better?

thanks a bunch

Use the cork one (glue it to the cover). Does anyone use a torque wrench on an A-series valve cover?

I think the manual says 4 or 5 ft-lbs. But that may or may not be tight enough depending on the type of grommets you have. So ... use common sense in this application.

I have an alloy cover and thick cork gasket, and large thumb screws. I just tighten as tight as my hand will go. I have never had a leak.
