TR2/3/3A Valve cover breather cap?

It occurs to me that I have never cleaned out the breather cap. Looks like wire mesh of some sort. What's the best way to clean it out...soak in solvent?

I think the book does say to rinse it in gasoline but I don't see why most solvents wouldn't do as well. Tom
 
Some solvent residue will cause damage if breather isn't totally dry. Fuel is fine, drys quick.
 
Nothing wrong with using high-test gasoline for cleaning...or is there?!?
Probably not since they took the lead out. There was a time when it was so commonly used that mechanics were getting lead poisoning. I quit using it 50 years ago and find odorless mineral spirits a more pleasant and perhaps safer substitute. Granted it doesn't dry as quickly but I don't see that as a problem.
