valve adjustment

Is there an order for adjusting the valves? ie. when the 8th rocker is up adjust the one valve? Or should I just go from cylinder to cylinder following the fireing order?
Thanks..........

The magic number is 13. Subtract 8 from 13 and you set valve 5 when 8 is fully open(down position). If you loosen the plugs put it in 3rd gear (break off) and push forward they will come in an order checking and adjusting 1,9,2,5,10,12,6,4,11,8, and 3. This allows rolling forward doing valves in consecutive order.

Since your profile doesn't say what you drive and your ID is 'Blue MG' I will add that for a 4 cylinder engine the same process applies but the magic number is 9.

Tahoe--

I knew about the magic number part but the order for rolling forward is new to me. Do you or anyone know the order for adjusting a four-cylinder car?

I'm not trying to be a smart a**, where does 7 fall into the order? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Ah.... So that's why it pings.
7 is right after 1 and before 9. Sorry. I found this in the Haynes shop manual and posted it in the garage. I lost the 7 running upstairs.

Thank you for the majic number I guess it would have been better to tell you were dealing with the 3000 motor.
Thanks again.

Michael, since no one responded I would just push forward and record the valves as they open for the next time. Or it is probably the same for all 4's (MGs sprites and others) with the same firing order.
