Value of a 1932 J2

Is there anyway to find a range of values for a 32 J2. It's in show condition and restored to original specs by a well known MG restorer.

I believe that the value of J2's is based on the body work...cycle wings or original units. Most have been fitted with cycle wings, when only racing cars had them originally. 42.5K euro is a little pricey to me.

Sorry for the dumb question ... but what is a racing wing? A spoiler of some sort?

"Wing" is britspeak for "fender".
Like on an old Land Rover, to access the clutch slave, "remove left wing".

If I had a spare 60K and wanted 78 mph downhill with a tailwind, I'd buy it!

Wait.......even if I only got 78 mph, I'd buy it!

Ha!

60k seems like it would be the very top of the market for this car, but I think this car is in top shape.

I guess my question is, do you think $60k is more money than he'll ever get for this car? Even if he did put that and more into it?

It looks really nice.

'Strewth! When I was a lad you could get a J2 for a fiver. Ten pounds if it had a reconditioned engine. People used to throw the MG engine away and put a Ford 10 sidevalve in them when they got worn.

The restorer, Tom Metcalf, is one of the best you will find in North America for the MMM cars as well as the T-series cars.

While the J2 will never be as valuable as a 6-cylinder car, $60K does not seem unreasonable for a pre-war model done to this level of quality. Keep an eye on the prewar.com site mentioned above, as this is the most common place to find them for sale. It really comes down to what the market will bear, as these are fairly rare cars these days. One thing to keep in mind is that they are not easy to find for sale in any condition, and if you do find a basket case then it will be a very expensive restoration. Parts are scarce and are not cheap when you do find them, so buying a car that already has everything is a big plus.

Any way you look at it, a J-Type is a fantastic car and worthy of any classic sports car collection. Better yet, they give many, many smiles per mile to the lucky ones who actually drive rather than trailer the car.

No, not all J2's had cycle wings...it would appear now that they did, as many owners fit cycle wings to save the cost of restoring the full wings. I would think that 60K would be over-priced.

I always thought the difference between stock wings and cycle wings was the stock ones had the big ridge down the centre, and the length/mountings were different.

Just goes to show what one forgets.

If I found one that needed a full restoration, and I wanted it to be show quality - wouldn't I spend at least $60k? Or no?

I see what sort of collection you have at the moment...very nice!
PM me and I will send you to a man that has VERY nice motors for sale at a good value.
