With the season of minimal, if any, driving I'm thinking of possible projects. With some of the challenges I've had with setting my engine up there were times that getting a vacuum reading would have been informative. I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile to drill and tap a hole in the intake manifold. It would be plugged for normal use and provide a measurement point when needed. I assume that I would make the location in the center although I'm guessing that the vacuum should be the same everywhere inside it. Would this be a worth while modification?
 
I like vacuum gauges so I am biased and say "yes".

The vacuum reading will bounce around a bit so I suggest tapping in the middle of the balance tube between the carbs. I have modified one of my Triumphs just like you are proposing. I tapped a 10-32 hole in the middle of the tube and installed a small barbed fitting. When the connection is not in use I put a small vinyl cap over the barbs.
 
I agree but Nelson be wary of drilling into too thin of metal on your manifold- it is a pretty rare one and would be a shame to mess up!
