Vaccum adavance question

I read in an append somewhere that the vaccum advance isn't really needed and that you could plug the hose and run the car w/o it. Has anyone had any expierence doing this. Would there be any disadvantages, harm, etc? Thanks for any responses.

I sure someone will correct if I'm wrong... but I was under the impression that TR6s would have a vacuum retard rather than vacuum advance.

As for disconnecting it... not sure why you would but it will give you incorrect timing at some RPMs.

Jerry,
Disconnecting the vacumn from your distributor will have no harmful effects whatsoever on the engine. You will have to reset the timing. The vacumn setup is there as a pollution thing. Plug the vacumn on the intake and close off the port(s) on the distributor. Set the timing with a strobe light to 8 degrees BFTDC and you're off and running. Many guys will set this by ear, but it seems that the 8 degree mark is about right. Wouldn't hurt to put a Lucas Sport coil on for a hotter spark. I am running triple Strombergs with a custom intake.
My power band is strong all the way through from low to high.

Bill
