If I were to like, go to a junkyard and look for an engine tranny set up for the Blue GT, what would slide right in? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

How bout a V6 set up?

Do you need to heavily modify the front suspension in order to do this?

OhBoi... You're headed down a flume, ain't cha.

What year was that GT? If it's a later one with the rad mounted forward, I've seen both V-8 and V-6 units stuffed in 'em. Some neatly, even. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Ford in both cases.

'73-'74 GT. It is actually the '73 body that I'll use but my assumptions are that there are no differences between the 2. I've got a 2.9 V6 in my Ranger. Should I look into those?

Someone other than me is gonna have to advise ya on gooberin' a V-anything into an early hull, Vince. I'm without the *ah-hem* err... 'benefit' of that experience. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

one of the books i purchased says the rubber bumper B's are easier to modify. something to do with the steering shaft I think? of course, given enough money and time anything is possible. there the britishv8.org website.

I believe that the '77-up cars have the radiator in the forward position as per the factory V8 cars.

I've always thought one of the 1.8 v6 from Mazda MX-3 would be a nice swap. Not many around though. A modern 4 might also be nice, Miata comes to mind. You could probably add plenty of power without creating too many space/balance problems. GRM/CM is going to do a series on this.

I know a fellow who put a Nissan 2.0 litre turbo in a 1977 MGB. Tight fit but does it ever go. My 77 does have the rad in front and it's original.

Such a great body. To each his own but the car seemed so nice as original. Quite a power plant he is trying to squeeze in. Where is the rest of his site?

No trying involved in putting a Ford or BOPR V8 into a B or B/GT....fairly easy to do. The beauty of Dan's conversion is the front crossmember...available from Ted Lathrop at FastCars inc.

FWIW - YOMV

3.4 Chevy V6 is an easy swap - with the 5-speed trans....I did it with a '68 GT & didn't have to change a thing on the body except the motor mounts (I did change some things such as removing the heater but none of them were necessary)....buy a complete wrecked Camaro so you get the engine, trans, driveshaft, shifter, & all the electrics in the event you want to stay EFI.

...actually, I'm pulling my V6 drivetrain right now to convert the car to a historic racer. Bill Guzman of Classic Conversions has a kit that makes the installation an easy bolt-in (https://www.classicconversionseng.com).
