Suggestions on either having the V12 rebuilt or buying used, or buying a rebuilt? Used runs about $1500 , suppliers charge about 6k, and a shop charges 6k to rebuilt mine.Blown head gasket. Completed body and interior restoration. Have concerns about a used engine that might blow a head gasket again. Thank you, Mark mlevit@san.rr.com

A used engine may get you 15,000 or more miles trouble free. I don't agree with installing a v-8. If I wanted a Chevy 350, I would buy the corvette wrapped around it. It is the V-12 that is the whole point of the XJS.

Go to www.pbsportscars.com . They have short blocks as well as longblock engines. Before considering a shortblock, read about the fun I had in removing V-12 Cylander heads. Unless you really want to undertake a rebuild yourself, consider having the engine rebuilt so that you can have some warantee.

Good Luck

"a used engine may get you 15,000 miles"??? HUH?? it all depends on the engine,on what you get. certainly any used part is a gamble, but one can end up with a good one. personally i'de take a chance on a used one if i knew a bit about its history. perhaps a shop which services jags knows of the availability of a used engine it is familiar with.
