V-Stacks for a SU carb

hmm... can't say "***s!"....

so: "Them's th' Cat's Pajamas!" will have to suffice. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Thanks for all the info. I own a machine shop and I was going to turn the trumpet style in my CNC lathe. I am designing them for the tapered K&N Filters. Now that I know that the holes must remain open and filtered I will proceed. I will put up pics and eval when I'm done.

The neat about making like the MGB stack that I mod is when you slip the KN unversal cone filter over with the supplies camp, you don't have two bolt passing thru the airflow. I'll try to post pics to day at the shop of some I made, and some Huffaker made, it's a very simple, user friendly design, that produce the most flow.

It would be great to see that Hap - are these the ones that can fit on the original stacks from the old filter housings?
What do you use to block the open end? Maybe I'm not seeing this right in my mind.

Jack, thanks for the link to the SU site. Those are some great looking filters. Maybe a set with Penelope etched into them...

I'm sure you are very busy but if you would take a moment to post those pics it would really help - I'm holding off buying anything to replace the cans on two sets of SU's until I see this.
Thanks!

Thanks for reminding me, I almost forgot, until you jogged my memory /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Forgive the scratches on the velocity stacks that came form using those motorcycle foam filters with spring inside of them, if you use the universal cone K&N filters #RU-4410 that works better, here's a picture on a set of the K&Ns on my MGB. You need to make the veloctiy stack 3.5" in diameter for these filters

Aha! The part number works in searches too!

So - any great ideas how to adapt this to the stock velocity stack?

I don't have access to a machine shop /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

I tried to come up with a way to attach a K&N to the stock stack, Moss 372-425 or 372-405, but was not succesful.

The bottom picture is a MGB engine, and yes those are the stock velocity stacks, only mod is counter sinking the front tow mounting hole to use flush hardware, it's truely a shame all LBCs didn't come with simular set up. Here's a close up of the stock MGB velocity stack with the flush mounted hardware, the factory should have done it this way to begin with /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif You'll notice with the above custom made HS2 stacks we widened the radius leading into the carb, which is a good thing.

Thanks Hap - that would be easy enough for me to do with a drill.

How do you hold the filters on at the base?
The picture looks like there is a large compression ring there?

That brings to mind another question, is the outer diameter of the stacks all the same whether it's HS2, HS4 or HS6 carbs?

I got them today, $52 shipped.
They look sweet on there, and they make the car sound and drive different. An improvement for sure!
Do you have to oil these before use?
Also - where are those little open brass connections supposed to connect?

I remember my K&N 's having a filter charger kit... INcluded a filter wash solution and an oil I believe. But that's going back some time. Should make it breathe nicely with that monza exhaust!

Alas this one is on the B. Standard B exhaust. It woulda been great to have this setup on Frank!

Rick, they are oiled when you get right out of the box, you can get the cleaner, re oiling stuff at most any auto parts store, unless you drive on dusty roads, they should go a long time before needing cleaning and re-oiling.

Thanks Hap - & thanks again for the tip on doing this!

Where did you end up getting these from, Rick?

I imagine that this style stack is good on the low end as well as WOT???
