Using the 'Search' Function

In the last few days, I've tried to search for specific information on a few old threads without any luck....its probably my fault for not knowing how to search correctly....but when I do finally find the information, it was by just running through all the threads I thought the info might be in.

Why? Because the thread had a subject that didn't relate to the topic - actually, the threads had 'cute' little subjects that really didn't relate to anything.

I know its hard, but is there a way to initially name a thread with the main focus of its content? I know we all hijack threads & change their focus completely from what it was originally meant to be - but, is there a way to at least start out with a subject that would lead me back to it when searching?

Sorry, rant over......& I'm probably one of the main people who do it!

It's a problem on all forums, BBS, email lists, etc. People never name topics something that makes sense when searching for information at a later date.

I know what you mean! Im guilty as well, I have tried to search several topics to no avail also, I tried to search the body using keywords with no luck either. Now i`m no computer guru either, could be I was trying the wrong methods.

yup... I'm very guilty of that too. It's a little embarrassing when I have to go back and search for one of those threads I made only to not remember what I titled the thread to begin with... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif

Oh yeah - and it's not like we're prone to veer off topic "every now and then"! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

veer off topic? Us? naaaaaaahhh! Never!

Tony,

I know exactly what you're not finding. Was looking for my own post on static timing the other day and couldn't find it. Might just have to start saving some of the larger typed destructions to a file so as to avoid all the retypin'.

Oops forgot we're suppose to be off topic by now.

Not me. However, it seems the only time I ever open my mouth lately is to change feet.
