Craigslist used to be the go-to for used cars and parts. I live in the Dallas area, there’s now only one sprite/midget listed at all. Where do people list stuff to buy/sell these days? Facebook?

My Bugeye still has a 948, smoothcase, and 4.22 diff. I want to upgrade to 1275, etc. I’m thinking I’d be better off to buy a parts car.

I belong to 6 local clubs. here in N.J. I also hold local Cars and Crumpets events 11 times a year . you can check it out at NJBCC.ORG.

I find a lot of cars and parts on FB Marketplace, but some of the flea market/garage sale sites must be joined.

I was in the same boat about 15 years ago with a bog standard Bugeye.

I searched and found a basket case '73 Midget for sale. When I went to look at the car the first thing I did was remove to the plugs and hook up a battery to see if the engine would crank and build oil pressure. Once it did, I hooked up a can of fresh gas and an electric fuel pump, and started it up. It ran with no smoke out the exhaust pipe, and I then ran it thru the gears while up on jack stands.

When I got it home, I stripped it to a bare shell salvaging the 1275, ribcase box, 3.9 diff and front & rear brakes, all of which eventually went into the Bugeye. I had the bare shell hauled off on a rollback for free, and it either went to a junk yard or a metal recycler. I sold off many of the salvaged parts and pieces and actually recouped all of the purchase price plus some. In fact, I have a few boxes of parts remaining which I am still slowly unloading.

This worked well for me, and could very well work for you too. Good luck.
