One of those shortcuts was VERY lucky, because I either botched my route or my math, and would have had a zero for the leg if I hadn't run into you at the gas station! Now I double and triple check the routes before I submit.

I just think it's funny that for the odds of a random thing happening being supposedly 1 in 5, so far I'm 5 for 7. Not that I'm complaining! Bad plugs, blown tire, two shortcuts and a good samaritan!

The other day I was all set to head for Idaho City...... Thought that's strange, I better check again... Sure enough. I was supposed to go to Idaho Falls. I'm glad I re-checked the route before sending.......

Awww!!!! Road construction! :frown: My diminishing lead is getting tighter!

Hey Basil, I have a nice Excel sheet I put together for this if you'd like a copy, basically it's a predictor with points necessary to catch the lead car and whatnot.

...if I've learned anything since the last time we played Virtual Rally it's trying to utilize two websites at the same time via dial-up (yes I still use dial-up!!) has become VIRTUALLY impossible...

When I had dial-up:

gas was less than a dollar a gallon
people loved their country, a lot, and it wasnt even the forth of july
people didnt know what an mp3 was, and I actually was thrilled to explain it to them
television was worth watching
there was half as many people living in my town as there are now
and I didnt know what a triumph was!

Basil,

The rally gave me a 16th leg for some reason. It sat on 15 and didn't show me as completed for a few days so I logged in to check it. It said 0 miles - 0 time limit - Click here to complete leg. When I did, it gave me full points and logged an extra leg.

Edit: And it still has me racing - I could get used to this North Dakota "Handicap" :driving:

Ok, it looks like I still have a bug in the game. I'll need to look at the details of your legs in the database to see what the situation was that might have caused the problem. It should have said you have completed the rally as soon as you finished the 15th leg. In the mean time I'll have to manually back out the score for the "16th" leg and set you to completed.

If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have none at all. :frown:

I've had bad luck on 6 of 8... including a ticket for 1 MPH over!

Glad it's not real life... I'd have gone ballistic. :madder:

I hear ya JRC. I've had more than my share of bad luck as well, and I am totally unfamiliar with this โ€œgood samโ€ -โ€œshort cutโ€ phenomenon that Richter 12x2 keeps talking about. This is why I donโ€™t go to Vegas.
This V Rally thing however is a heck of a lot of fun, and I have to thank Basil for putting this together. Iโ€™ll be looking for the next one.

DARN!!..DISQUALIFIED!! and I still had 4 legs to go..I was well on my way to breaking all records  ...for negative points that is  ....definitely my most pathetic attempt at VR....thanks anyway Basil...

Hi folks,

Congrats to Richter on first place and many thanks to Basil for putting on the fun rally!

PS. I was watching the Brazil Vs. Chile World Cup match. The Chilean manager is apparently known as "El Loco" because he loses his temper sometimes with the players. Chile were losing and the commentator said that at half-time the manager was going to meet with his team and do a Basil Fawlty on them! Ha!

Yeah, I logged in today but it said the rally was over.
Not sure if I misread the Rules or not.
Cheers

Just to be fair, I'm extending it till midnight tonight (end of 30 June), based on server time, which is East Coast time.
