Uprated springs or stock?

Crisis

I am currently rebuilding my suspension and am looking for advice and opinions. Am replacing; front shocks, ball joints, t-rod ends,trunnions,bushings,sway-bar links, rear bushings, rear shock links (staying with rear shocks). What I can't decide on is springs. Our roads here are terrible, meaning lots of; potholes, frost heaves, tar strips etc. If I get the lower/stiffer springs am I asking for trouble? Comfort issue aside, will I be scraping bottom all the time? I like how they look lowered, but what does an inch mean to driveability? I still have the original springs and they're not broken. Thanks.

If your road surface is that bad, stay with the stock springs, and get good shocks, front and rear, rebush, make sure the spring rubber cushions are installed. Then you can change the springs later, relatively easy, if you feel so inclined.

It really depends on your tires. The tires on these cars are part of the suspension. So if you use a lower ratio tire like a 65 or 60 series tire, a change to stiffer suspension will be more dramatic than using a 205 x 70 series because the tire provides insulation from the road as well as the spring does.

My style of driving in the TR is more suited to a stiffer suspension so mine is uprated and also have 60 series tires. I just try to swerve and miss the holes (or drive the Tundra instead.)

We have the same road conditions here this time of year and if they're not full of potholes, the city just dumped a couple shovel fulls of loose tar in the hole. I don't what's worse the tar or the holes? Frost heaves are bad!
