Upholstering BE door pockets

I have the door pockets prepped and ready to cover in vinyl. Any advice on how to proceed. I'm particularly interested on how to handle the edges.

The originals had a cardboard piece about 2" wide along the edge of the pocket, sides and bottom, this was to cover the steel rivets used to hold the side clips on, Those brass notebook paper bend over things from Staples work for this.
The vinyl went over the top metal edge and inside the pocket.
I have used 1/4" foam in place of the cardboard for a more defined look around the edges, but cereal box cardboard was what the original was. Just enough to cover the rivets.
The vinyl folded over the edges of the side clips.

I too used the 1/4" thick foam with a 3M 08088 adhesive. I countersunk the 1/4" thick particle board at the location of the flathead screws (1/4"dia.). Just spray the adhesive on on the main body, then come back to spray a small portion of the edge. Continue working it around until you are finished. Use a flat screwdriver for the area around the metal brackets.

This is what mine looks like. If you would like to see the dirty side, let me know.

Glue all the way around. About 1/2 inch on back side.
