upgraded to win10 shift no longer works

i upgraded my laptop to win10 and just discovered that the shift key no longer works CAP LOCK DOES WORK
function and most of the other keys work. but shift doesn't...
so far none of the ideas i have found on the internet have solved this.... any ideas i have the latest version of the keyboard driver but it was last updated for win 8.
 
You may have run into the planned obsolescence of older hardware and no new drivers.
Have you tried updating drivers, just to see what happens?
Still have your "old" files to revert?

Method 1: Try running Automated Troubleshooting Services and check what it has to say.

Method 2: Check if the issue persists in safe mode and post back the same. This also might be because of some third party softwares.

Method 3: Try some external keyboard and check if you are able to use Shift keys on it. Post back the same.
 
  • Open the keyboard by clicking the Start button. Control Panel>Hardware and Sound> Keyboard.
  • Click on the Hardware tab, and find the keyboard that you are currently using, and then double-click over it.
  • You then have to click on the Driver tab, and select Update Driver, and then wait for the instructions to follow.
  • You might be prompted to reboot the system, if yes, you must.

or low explosives. 12GA does wonders to anything using Windoze 10, be it laptop, tablet, stupidphone 4.0, or PC. It even works for 10 discs not yet installed.

well i reverted to win 7 and still no capitals .... whatever happened it screwed up the computer .. but i wonder if it actually had anything to do with win10 i don't really use this computer so often... maybe this happened a while ago. the high explosives option is looking better by the minute
 
One of the options I read was to just try another keyboard.

So neither of the two Shift keys work?

If just one doesn't work, I'm betting you've got dust under the key cap.

Neither of the caps work which is why I have a hard time believing it is the keyboard. I plugged a usb keyboard in and it worked just fine.
 
Thanks for the update. Do a System Restore, back to a date *before* the shift key problem hit. Then let us know the status.
