Have any of you done an upgrade from gen to alternator. As i go through this midget I have been upgrading where it seems apropriate for a daily driver. Right now I am torn between using a mitsubishi alternator from a late 80s mazda(Lucas made) or just using a a\c delco GM type because of its availability. from what I have been reading the Mit one is smaller and will make a better fit. Any advice on this? I have made a new backing plate for the old generator Regulator cover and used it for 4 fuse holders for extra gadgets I plan to ad. trying to keep the original look under the hood as much as possible.

Yes, I have done both. I must say I like the smaller one better. Even though I like the Delco. I have used this one twice. On my 76, the delco looked right when replacing that big lucas. But on my 71, when I installed the delco to replace the genny - that looked totally out of place, so off came the delco and on went the mitsubishi. Looks much better.
