UPDATED QUESTION - Front tapered bearing upgrade

I've cleaned, re-packed, and reinstalled the original inner ball bearings, which has re-centered the disc in between the brake pads. I used the new (rubber) seals that came with the tapered bearings, since the (old) metal-shell seals were deformed when removed. Forget this 30205X nonsense! :p

For the outer, I'm going to try the roller bearings... I've left the spacer in, although it's very difficult to tell whether it's actually contacting the back side of the outer bearing. Torque-wise, I'm going to try for just about .000-.001 endfloat, as would normally be done with the rollers, so there will be very little pressure on the nut & washer. Due to the extra thickness of the tapered bearing, the nut sits a tiny bit further out, but I can still get a cotter through the hole.

So that's it. Final reassembly tomorrow... Frankly, I don't care whether it lasts 100 miles, and I have to redo it. I just want to get the car re-safetied, re-plated, cleaned up and packed away for winter! But, that being said, I can't think of any reason why the two bearing technologies can't get along. The inner ball bearing shouldn't need the high torque and the pressure of the spacer, as long as the outer does its job, and takes out some of the slop.

Predictions of catastrophic failure, anyone? Has anyone tried running them like this before?
 
Well, one side assembled, one left to go. With the poly bushings, repacked inner & new outer bearing, new tie rod end etc., everything feels a lot tighter! Almost put the trunnion on backward, resulting in wheels that look like this! \ / hehe... figured it out before I got too far along though, disaster averted.

My springs are *not* short enough, with the suspension fully lowered, to manually push them into place. I'm planning on jacking them up into place, along with the spring pan, once everything else is on. Have any other RB 1500 owners experienced the same thing? Or do I have longer-than-stock springs? (Ride height seems normal.)
 
Well, overwhelming silence from the LBCF! I must be breaking new ground...

Everything went back together fine, the front end feels A LOT tighter than it did! Had to make a Home Depot run for nuts & bolts last night, I'll put the finishing touches on it tonight (rollbar with poly bushes & new hardware, new lever arm-to-trunnion bolts.)

New safety check, license plates & insurance await!

Of course, something had to get in the way... the retaining nut on the throttle of the DGV fell off at some point! From what I can tell, it looks like an M8 fine (1.0) that I'll have to go to a specialist fastener store for. Can anyone confirm size?
 
The problem you encountered with the springs sounds about normal to me. I do not think your springs are too long, especially since the ride height is normal!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif
