Update...

At long last we have come to an agreement with the motor manufacturer. The motor that caused all the problems and the 'fire' in the evaporative cooler. We were not greedy and asked only for the cost of the motor and the cord and pulley. That amounted to about 50% of our total cost. I really think they thought I would just go away but apparently they don't know me. What made me angry was that when I initially advised them, they just said 'out of warranty.' I had to make them understand that the motor was the catalyst for all that happened and used the example of being t-boned and that it didn't matter if the other vehicle was 15 years or 15 days old. I wasn't looking for a replacement of the motor but rather a fair compensation for the damage it caused. I think that is when they realized that I could be asking for much more and that clearly they had some responsibility. I guess I'm feeling a little like a kid that gets an A on his homework.
