Update on the 4-door Spridget [Morris Minor]

When I last posted on my Morris Minor, I had the engine out and the transmission off to Gerard for rebuild and modifications to fit:

Since then I've been busy. Took all of this week off from work and have been spending it out in the garage getting the car back together. All told I've redone the 5-speed conversion with Gerard's kit (including a new clutch), hydraulic clutch conversion (Morris was mechanical), new brake components, added oil pressure/water gauge and tach... been busy!

My new carb should be coming today -- it's the last part I'm waiting for. If all goes well, I should be able to fire the car up next week for the first time in 9 months or so. I've only actually driven the car a couple times, so this is like getting a new car!

Good progress, Drew. With the carb arriving today (it's already assembled for you) all you'll need to do is attach the manifolds and linkage and you be pretty much "home". I wouldn't be surprised if you have it fired up by tomorrow at the latest.

Re: Update on the 4-door Spridget [Morris Minor]

Got the new carb today, and got it installed. Just took a little grinding on one ear on the exhaust header for clearance. Unfortunately, the throttle and choke cables are too short, so I've got some thinking to to.

Also got the brakes and clutch bled, and that went fine. First time I've made hydraulic lines and my own flares, so it was gratifying when they actually worked.

Looks super! As for the cables - just drive around town for now - half throttle

Re: Update on the 4-door Spridget [Morris Minor]

Got the cables sorted and the carb and exhaust header mounted securely. A few details left and I should be able to fire the car up and see if it all works. Hopefully within the next few days, if time allows.

Sadly, I have to go back to work on Monday -- was really nice to have a week doing nothing but car stuff. Occasionally frustrating, but still better than going to the day job!

A crappy day in the garage beats any great day at work.

Looking good Drew! I can hardly wait to see it in person.

Re: Update on the 4-door Spridget [Morris Minor]

She runs!

9 days straight in the shop, usually 7 or so hours a day. Went from scattered parts to a car, and even took a (very!) short drive. All of 5 feet in either direction. Still, the first she's moved under her own power in 9 months.

Next up is a good tuneup and a few leaks I need to address. I've got time now to sort these things out -- we're going on a weekend drive with my local club over Memorial Day, so it's nice to have a few weeks to sort things out. Heck, I've only really driven the car twice before I pulled her apart to fix the 5-speed conversion issues.

No question there! It was such a nice vacation -- kept my mind of work for the week that's for sure. Sadly, on Monday it's back to the office for me.

Re: Update on the 4-door Spridget [Morris Minor]

Congrats! and yeah.... here work isn't so much the issue but cold - no energy whatsoever to go to the garage.

Ain't progress great though?

It sure is! I was at a point in life where seeing some demonstrative progress on almost *anything* was a positive!. All in all, a really nice vacation. Hopefully I'll get the tuneup sorted this week -- though mountain spring weather may be bringing snow later this week (it's been in the 60s and lovely for the last little while).
