Update on exhaust

Just spoke with David at APT about my exhaust question, and they did send me the proper exhaust -- the photo on their website is now out of date. The kink in the pipe is so that the exhaust can go over the rear axle.

His comments were that this design allows the pipe to be fit a bit closer to the car, helping with ground clearance. The part # stays the same, but now the exhaust works more like the Morris Minor one.

So I've got the proper bits, just need to figure out how to work out the mounting. Don't have to worry about it for a while, but at least I now know the bits are correct.

Looks like you're getting ready to drop your rear end! Here come the "might-as-well's"!!

Re: Update on exhaust

Already in the middle of them, Tony. All I started with was a radiator cleaning. Now it's a new motor, transmission, differential, disc brakes...

I'm pretty sure it is, though I haven't measured it. It does mate nicely up to the header. I imagine that it should work just fine. Not sure how I'll handle the exhaust hangers, but I (or more likely, all of you helping me) will get that figured out.

Yep, but now its all new rear bushings, etc.

Is a Bugeye quarter elliptical? If so, hope you're luckier than I was in removing the radius arm bushes! 'Welded' solid to the arm...I couldn't get them out, machine shop is trying now...2 new arms in mail from Moss in case!

If it fits inside the header it is probably 1 5/8ths. Look at the hangers for 1 1275 and you will be fine. I have one in the back wall by the spring mount and one on the muffler itself through the trunk. I had an exhaust shop weld them up after I had a them fitted and could drive there.

Yep Bugeye is 1/4 elliptical. Mine came out the rubber part with a press, the remainder was cut out.

Yep, rubber came out easily with the smaller metal bush...but the larger is frozen in there...if he can't press it out with his 40-ton press, its time for heat.

Re: Update on exhaust

Cut it in two halves with the saw zal then peal what's left. This is not a critical insert, go to it.

Re: Update on exhaust

Yep, that's probably what I'll end up doing!
