Update on curveball...Don't Cry For Me Argentina

My big issue was a worsening of a chronic back problem, deal with the big "C" and burnout. Dealing with it. Appreciate all the kind words. Not looking for sympathy, just answers. Rediscovered that my beloved TR6 is more medicine than problem. Great way to blow off steam and reduce stress. The big issue is pulling the tranny to get to the flywheel. Don't got that ability to benchpress anymore, so I may jerk the whole engine (physically a lot easier on the back, just a PIA to do in a 1-car-garage). The car is still for sale, but if that doesn't happen, no biggie. Still runs like batoutahell. Still trying to find that little punk in the Civic.

Best attitude to have. Its something different and a challenge outside the daily grind and "normal" life....

Good luck with it, and the other things....

No bench pressing required with one of these:

I used one and it was easy to maneuver the gearbox fore & aft for R&R. I cannot recall if you have the heavy OD gearbox (I don't) but since you seem to have an engine hoist you may even be able to use that to aid in getting the gearbox out of the passenger compartment.

Boy do I wish I had some extra cash sitting around.

A while back I had to deal with a little dose of the "Big C". So far so good. Best of luck to you.
Not sure where Franklin, LA is, but aren't there a lot of Bristish car folks down in your area. I know they have a page in the British Marque newspaper. It always helps to have friend help pull an engine and trans. I did it by myself in my Nissan truck and Spitfire. Neither was easy.

I used an ATV jack stand to remove my differential. The 4 adjustable, moveable points made it very easy to get it position just right and then I lowered it. Went back in very easy also using the ATV jack stand. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Jerry,
Differential goes down, transmission goes up! I have seen where someone on the forum removed his Spit tranny with a sling, but the TR6 tranny is too far up under the dash. A sling would be darn tough to manuever. It is just grunt power, and as I have said, all my neighbors run and hide when I look like an "Arab bearing gifts". (I'm an Arab so I can make racial slurs against myself. Actually, I think it is "Greeks bearing gifts".) Pulling the whole shebang is really a snap but it's the prep time that is a real pain.

It's been nearly 3 decades since I pulled a transmission out of a TR6, but here are some ideas that may make it easier.
Use the engine hoist along with a leveler. Something like this;
https://www.tooldiscounter.com/ItemDisplay.cfm?lookup=WLMW41030&source=froogle&kw=WLMW41030
That will allow yu to adjust the angle of the trans as you maneuver it from under the dash.
Before you begin to lift set the casters so they are ready to roll toward the rear of the car. This may allow you to move the hoist rearward to gain clearance.
even if you can't get a leveler to hold a good angle. If you have a secure attactment near the center of gravity on the transmission you can change the angle by lifting or lowering the rear of the trans. This still requires 2 people, but not the strenous lift you're concerned about.
If you weren't 500 miles away I would come over this weekend and we could get that sucker out. Can you speak Spanish? Run down to the local place where the day workers gather and hire a couple of guys.

Bill- Half the battle is Spirit!
Fight the bastards, I say.

26 months ago the docs gave me 24 months to get
suff in order. Guess the docs were off by a bit.

My Suff's in fine order and I am pressing forward.

Bully for both of you!!

Bill, can't that transmission job become a local club tech session? Many guys could learn a bunch about the right way to do the job, providing a few strong backs are there for the bull work.
