Update BN1 Progress....

As promised here area a few pictures of the BN1 with its wire harness almost complete and a completed Engine. Still have some clean up items and a few proper wire clips to sort out but the details are what keep this interesting...

I'm working towards mating the engine and transmission over the holiday break and installing the engine...

First tiem posting with pictures so I hope this works...

At first your harmonic balancer looked bent (4th picture of engine), but then I realized I was looking at the brake drum. Duh! Now that I have that figured out I'll say "Looks Great!"

I guess perspective is everything... next time better pictures of the engine without a frame attached.

That the work looks very nice goes without saying. I'm going to guess that the side of the garage we can't see isn't nearly as clean. Eating off the floor looks like it might really be possible in some places. As for brake drum illusion, a while back in the thread about putting in the engine and transmission (John Loftus), I spent a few seconds trying to figure out what the photo posted by Dave Russell showed attached to the back of his overdrive. It looked like....hey, wait a second that's a bench grinder!

Nice job! The progress feels good, doesn't it? I hope that I will "finish" my restoration by the first of the year, but I have learned patience is the key. After six years, I have learned what is another day here or there to do a job the right way.

Keep up the good work and I like to see those images even if suspension parts are growing out of the ends of the engine! All my best.

My compliments on a truly great job, you make me want to restore my 100 all over again!
I have two comments: On the picture looking straight into the engine bay, the plaque with the unified car number is clearly visible near the voltage regulator. Yet, when you look down to the chassis rail the two holes that hold the pre-unified chassis number plate can be seen, but there is no plate. Is the car a late '54?
On the last picture, the throttle linkage bellcrank lever (that is what the parts book calls it) seems to me to be upside down. I think the rod from the lever mounted on the body cross shaft (between the foot boxes) to the lever should be parallel to the chassis rail.
Every time I look at the throttle linkage on a 100 it is arranged in a different way!
Of course I am accustomed to the right hand drive set up!

Thanks for the reply and comments.... This is a 55 with a delivery date of July 55, I think or June I will have to check again. So from what I have found the plates on the inside and on the rail were all replaced with the unified plates on the firewall.

On the bell crank, it very well may be upside down, once I get he engine in and start hooking it up I figured it would be evident as to how it went, but you never know. Seems that no matter how many pictures you take there is always that one you wished you had taken.....

Yes, the bell crank is upside down & backward. The crank on the firewall moves to the rear to open the throttle.

The crank needs to be flipped over so that the arms are closest to the exh. manifold. Bearing boss outboard & secured with a cotter. Then the short arm 45 degrees above horizontal & connected to the rod going to the firewall, long arm 45 degrees below horizontal, & connected to the short link to the throttle shaft.

Believe me, it's much easier to change it before the engine is installed. I have attached a sketch of the layout.

Gilbert, Thanks... Yep Healey Ice Blue. This is original color….. It was painted White and then Red during two other cosmetic restorations....

Hi Michael,
I believe that the unified number stamped on the firewall plate was introduced in November '54. The plate on your would have been there from delivery in '55. I suppose nobody at Austin told the chassis manufacturer to stop drilling the holes for the older style chassis number plate!
Re the throttle linkage: I knew Mr. Russell would come up with a detailed response!
The sketch is great, I will use it as a reference in future.
In that view, there is no difference between left & right hand steering cars.
