TR6 Unobtainium TR6 Parts?

I have pretty much decided to go ahead and buy the '71 TR6 that some of you may remember from a couple of previous posts. This is one of the Belgium built cars, with European style seats (no headrests), originally fuel injected (and therefore probably with overdrive) but has now a new engine, new transmission, new suspension (I think Koni shock absorbers) and various other new mechanical parts from Moss.

It appears to have been repainted: it is now blue, but it looks like it was originally red (I am trying to get hold of the paint code to verify that).

The interior apart from the dash, instruments and seats, is mostly absent, so I have been researching where I can obtain the missing pieces. I've looked at Moss, VB, the Roadster Factory and the Little British Car Company. There are some exterior pieces I also need. After looking at those places, and Ebay, most stuff I need is available, but I can't seem to find:

1) the console support assembly, the piece that straddles the transmission tunnel, and through which the gearstick emerges. I think this consists of a metal part and a padded vinyl covering?

2) a replacement gearstick (the existing one is too long)

3) the indicator lamp assemblies that attach to the front wings

Are these going to be impossible to find? Is there somewhere else I should be looking?

Thanks!

Julian, have you posted photos of this car? Has this car already been discussed? I dont want to be a buttinski, but is this a good car?.

Ebay, make a list and watch as over time all these things come up.

I've purchased the support assy on ebay for my 69 TR6 for $10.00 + shipping about $10.00 also. All the parts you need I've seen on ebay....you just need to patient. Try Triumphs Only here in Ca. Check out the VTR classifieds website as well, someone is always parting out a TR. Fortunately, 71 parts aren't usually that hard to source out.

Hope this helps,

Rob

Yep! As far as L.B.C. ..... N./A. parts are concerned Ebay is your best bet. There are "other sources" {for SOME stuff} besides the big three and ebay.
Here is one https://www.holden.co.uk/default.asp I`m sure other will be chiming in with other sites too!
Welcome to the wonderful world of N./A. L.B.C. parts, and good luck.

Aren't there any British automobile salvage yards in the greater Los Angeles area?

Not in the classic "junk yard" sense; but there are still several people around that part out Triumphs. Greg Cole & John Nichols are two names that spring to mind. Albert Roth used to have a large inventory but last I heard he was liquidating it and probably doesn't have any left.

Julian, I suggest you join one or both of the LA-area Triumph clubs. SCTOA meets on the first Tuesday of most months, 7:30PM @ Maggie's Pub in Santa Fe Springs on Telegraph Road, a few miles northeast from where I-5 crosses I-605. TRSC meets same time & place, but on the 4th Tuesday. No need to pay dues if you don't want to; just come introduce yourself (& your car). I'm sure someone can hook you up with the parts you need.

If you'll let me know when you are coming, I can probably bring you a TR6 gearshift lever. Or, you can buy one new from TRF, P/N 148095. https://www.the-roadster-factory.com/

Is Wayne still in business then ? Last I heard, he was trying to sell out.

These all appear on eBay, with complete regularity.... Good Luck w/ your new purchase.

Thanks for all the advice.

This car has been partially discussed here (the gearstick and the fender seam were topics).

Comments are welcome. Please bear in mind that this is a car I want to restore: it is not a car that I am expecting to drive around shortly after getting it. It is also meant to be challenging to some extent. If you know of a TR6 in a similar condition that is available *now* and at a reasonable price, then I'd love to hear about it.

"Restore" means different things to different people ... does that mean you want to restore it to the way it was originally built ? Ie Belgian specification, PI engine, and all ? Seems like a mighty tall order to me ...

Good question! I mean restore to reliable, driving condition, and to a very good cosmetic condition. I am not bothered about originality (if I was, then this car would be a very bad choice, as I think you were implying!).

That was exactly my point. Since you aren't worried about strict originality, I think you will have little trouble finding the parts you need.

Its doable, it looks to have good bones. It appears to be a straight forward driver resto. I wonder why a patch on the Front pass side wheel well.

Many thanks, Randall. I will try to get up to one of the Triumph club meets you mentioned, and drop you a line before I do so.

Whew! I was expecting a deluge of "I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole!" replies, so I am cautiously encouraged /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif

I noticed that patch, too, if it is a patch? All the suspension seems to have been replaced, and I wonder if it is related to work on that?

So, JJ, what did she run you? (Only if you want to tell, of course,) It reminds me of my '74, some things better, some things worse! Best of luck!

I second Randall's suggestion about SCTOA. Nice group of guys and gals; I look forward to the Saturday Breakfast meetings the 1st and 3rd of the month, at Paty's in Toluca Lake
