Well, I was terminated Monday. I'm a Master Electrician who was a Facility Management Supervisor at a medium sized hospital. Tha administration has been after me since the director that hired me was retired. Couldn't get me on job performance, so they manufactured a harrassment charge, not sexual, based on a comment in a meeting. The person I supposedly harrassed, did not report the comment, or feel that the comment was out of line. Oh well. I have a job interview today, and will probably be working again next Monday. Good Electricians can always find work. I've always had a problem with my mouth opening, and saying what I really think. Can't play the political games. I guess I'm better off on a construction job site. Thanks for listening, semi-rant off.
 
Contact an attorney....make your former employer sweat. Sounds to me as though "you been done wrong".
 
And while you're follownf rick's advice, good luck with the job interview.
 
MikeH, good luck with the interview. Big companies are so political that it makes you wonder how they survive.

hospitals love to settle out of court.

Been there w/ the speak my mind /oopps
out of a job.

A man with construction skills is never long out of work.
Take it from a in the field architect- you meet a nicer,
more honest bunch of guys on construction sites.

Bieng a Master Electrician, Like a Welder, you are only outta work if ya wanna be! Employer politics are very hard to take {especially for someone like minded as me!} Fortunately my pervious employer was D.O.D. {Govt.} and it is very hard for just a boss to can you {The down side to that is, there are many many "Bad" employees working D.O.D. cause it is so hard to get rid of them!} or i`d have been gone long before my retirement for voicing my opinions and basically bieng a non conformist to thier political adjendas. I kept a log of all of the parts and part numbers I repaired, {quanity, dates, and time it took} so my bosses attempts at dismissing me for "non productivity" were complete and utter disasters for him. I never came to work late or left early and also kept a log of when he {my boss} did, dates and times too. I`m sure it is a lot easier to be a "Sit down, go to work, and shut up" type employee but that just isn`t my style. I had bosses that loved me {the ones that gave me job assignments then left me alone to do them.} and ones that hated me {the ones that tried to "Burn" me for one reason or another.I`m sure we`ve all "been there done that"
Good luck on the job interview and hopefully you will get a boss that will admire your skills and work habbits and leave the politics on T.V. {SMILE}

Thanks Everyone, The interview went well, but I don't think they can afford me. Aweman, you're right, I won't have any problem finding work. Just galls me that they manufactured a reason to let me go, and the benefits will be hard to replace. The support is really appreciated.
 
too bad you are in Colorado, the local IBEW is crying for workers and will be for at least 5 years. major powerhouse construction in the area.
 
I would continue to search for new employment but I would also speak with a labor attorney and before the meeting write down all that happened so that you can be fully prepared. See if you have a case and then rattle their cage. Your so called 'boss' has a boss as well and this boss has a boss, and so on and so on. The liklihood is the need to settle will be primary and your 'boss' will get some well deserved flak!

Before I went to Iraq the last time my bosses created a new position for me since I was doing the job. Before I moved into the job I was deployed and the job was filled by a more senior lady who let me know even when I was in Iraq I was not really welcome back. THe fellow emplyees and my workers all sent me care packages, she sent me grief. 3 of my 4 employees left rather than work under her. Once I got home, my first meeting with her she told me "you are just a dumb Army guy who will not be able to work for a strong lady like me". SHe particularly did not like the fact I found out she had been fired for sexually harrassing a female worker of hers in her last job. End of story, she still has the job that was made for me and I moved to a different department. Politics are bad

mike, we are all sure you find another job, i went through a very similar experience in the aviation industry, have you ever considered going into business for yourself? no politics, no arguing, run your own schedule, and when something goes wrong you know who blame, no im not kidding, i bailed out of my situation in 1990. never had this much fun making a living.

That's terrible advice. Never burn your bridges. One day you may want to go back, need a reference, etc. Employers check your civil record for civil actions as well as criminal issues. No one will hire a person known to be litigous. Even if the discharge was a bad decision or unfair, bad management is not illegal.

But...some bridges are built so poorly that one does not want to travel over them again...

Yes...burning bridges *can* be bad....and there are always two sides to every story...but how can being advised to contact an attorney be taken as bad advise? Let the attorney decide if one has a case or not. Nothing goes on record until action is taken.

If this employer is allowed to treat one employee in this manner, I can almost guarantee that other employees are being treated in that same way. And that's just wrong. I'll betcha that administration (CEO, CFO, COO) is not aware of the actions of the middle management...and would most likely not be too pleased in how this particular incident has been handled....

shinsen774, seems that bridge was set on fire by the management, the way the discharge was handled do you think they would ever give him a good ref.?
 
Sounds discriminatory to me....and there are laws against that.
 
I'm working to stir the pot, basically because the working atmosphere at this facility is one of paranoia. Many positions have just been eliminated, and then re-opened a few months later. Litigation is certainly an option, but I'm going through the resolution process first. Don't really want to work there again, but if I can make things better for other employees; I will accomplish a lot. Thanks,
