Undiscovered classic cars?

I was in Hendersonville, TN today & saw a bright green Maverick with white Shelby stripes on it in a car lot...looked good from the street.

I don't know if I'd consider any porsche undiscovered. The Mavericks a good one though, same with the celica convert, even though it's not really my cuppa tea....How bout the early ninties 300zx?

erm.. I don't think I'd consider any "Z Car" undiscovered, personally. Those cars are up there with any other popular European sports car with today's crowd. I guess anything with the name "Shelby" on it can't really be called undiscovered either, but I'd still have to say that a Dodge Omni Shelby might qualify as one of the least known Shelby cars, and probably amoung the most affordable Shelby's you'll be able to find. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

While most might feel this way about the Marque – I’ve discovered in some circles the front engine RWD aren’t so coveted and are somewhat fronded upon by some of the snobbish Porsch-i-o-philes. But I’m with you as I’ve seen the same thing just a short time back with the snubbing of Rubber Bumper Bs by “some” (but not all) of the Chrome Bumper sect – that today are bringing five figures.

Although I don’t expect the early entry 924’s to bring as much as a nice 914 or a 912 anytime soon. The only exception to this would be the later 924 Turbo variants as well as the later more refined & improved 944s.

As for Maverick & Commit? Well while I’m not a big fan they do seem to have their loyal following too. Sad thing is many have seen an untimely demise as donor cars for other Ford brethren.

I'd like to add the cars I mentioned in my other thread "neglected exotic cars" Seems like there is always a couple of them at an affordable price level. Sure parts and maintenance might break you, but price of admission, and the fact that they seem to be frowned on by their respective marques collectors - Much like the rwd front engined porsche - put them into a unique position where those of us who love cars in general can own an exotic.

I think my nomination, although again, I don't know how "undiscovered" it is, would be the Datsun 510 two door coupe. Great racer!

Second the 510!
how about the 80s Dodge Duster with an honest to goodness Masarati designed engine. As long as you could keep a timing belt on one they ran wonderfully.

AMC Rebel SST

AMC Hornet!

Hey, I once had one of the first little Horda Accord's - with parts from Jackson Racing, I made her a little scremer

I agree 100% Nunyas. Mom got a non-turbo 2.2L Dodge Shelby Charger in 1984 and I had a shiny new driver's license. When we brought it home dad took me for a spin and he put it through its paces out in the country. Then he made a critical error. He was very impressed with the handling and acceleration and he said to me "You need to be very respectful of this car - it reminds me very much of the way Austin Healys and Triumphs that I've driven handle and I don't want to see you driving it like this"

Well THAT was a stupid thing to say dad /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Any time I got the keys I beat that thing like I was the second coming of Stirling Moss. It handled like it was on rails and I only got it sideways a few times - but not for lack of trying! It was an extremely fun car to drive and took all of the punishment I gave it. I wore out those eagle GT tires in less than 10 months.

Actually there is really no reason I should still be alive at this point. Young, dumb, and driving way too fast on country roads.... Those spoilers were a real pain to get the corn out of after losing it and sliding into a field too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

They are really cheap these days. Paint was always a problem and I'd be scared of the turbos durability at this point but a normal carburetterated model would hold up pretty well. There is a cheap plastic bushing on the shifter that goes out easily but other than that they were tanks.

Cadillac Allante!
