[Un]restored?

I'm curious as to how many people on here have unrestored and restored cars on here. So post what car it is and whether it's restored or not, and I'll count 'em up! By unrestored I mean it's never had a frame-off. Mine is a rolling restoration... As in I fix things as they go wrong.

Me - '72 Triumph TR6: unrestored

I have a 59 TR3 that is restored.

none of mine have ever had a frame off, the spit was going to be the first candidate for that but now I ain't gonna worry since it will be being sold.

Web,

I honestly don't know the extent of restoration that either of my cars has gone through. I do know that my TR4 needs a good "frame off", but right now it looks too good (to the untrained eye) to mess with. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Both the Bugeye and the TR4 have been restored to some extent, and I would classify the Bugeye as an older "so-so" restoration and the TR4 as a newer amateur restoration.

To further muddy the waters, I do not know what's been done to the thing prior to last November. Given the shape of the frame, it appears that the frame may have been done at some time in the not so distant past (10-15 yrs), but the body certainly looked worse.

It's undergoing a "frame-on" resto right now!

Good question
85 TVR 280i 9042 miles unrestored all original
78 MGB 40020 miles unrestored replaced carpet
81 TR7 unrestored needs to be restored

1970 GT6+ - started to be a frame off, ran out of money, time, facilities, steam and wifely patience - sorta sittin in a basket -

67 Sprite, Rolling restoration, now getting rustectomies of the floorpans, a-posts, doglegs, you name it.

Lovin' every minute of it!

here is a link to our car and it pretty much documents the build up of it,

Exterior - one respray
Interior - unrestored (the wool carpeting is still in good shape)
Mechanicals - rebuilt once
Electrical - unrestored except for Bosch alternator

TR2 restored to daily driver.
TR3A unrestored but needs it.
TR6 in the works as we speak.
Brian

59 TR3A -- Restored (had it so long I've restored it more than once).

64 TR4 -- Unrestored (Original paint, engine, electrics and interior [except for dash pads and carpet]).

Just like you-- rolling restoration but to good driver status. While I envy those owners who take years to do all the wonderful frame off restorations to new or better status, I can't muster the patience to stop driving the car. A week or 2 "down time" seems forever!

Rolling Resto on mine. Actually a little bit of upgrading too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif Daily driver from april to november.

Spitfire was orig - sold to avoid restoration. Scimitar will be a frame off resto likely.

Both my TR3 and TR4 are restored, but not completely frame-off. So I guess you can talley them as rolling restorations.

Personally, I love the look of original, completely unrestored cars. I had a real tough time deciding to restore my very original TR4. The dash, weatherstripping, and leather seats all had multiple cracks. The red paint was almost pink and worn thru in places. It had personality, (much like Geo's original TR4). Don't get me wrong, mine's a beauty now, too. I've no regrets.

With the right combination of money, skill, time and mental fortitude, anyone can restore a car. But an unrestored beauty is only in that condition once and it takes years and years to achieve it's well worn patina.

I haven't had a body off frame resto. but I've had the exterior repainted and a new interior put in. I've done alot of things to prevent the car from dying anytime soon.

My 72 TR6 a rolling restoration. Just had the frame reinforced and undercoated. Now it's on to the rockers. Engine is solid. Body needs some work and new paint, but still looks ok from a distance (hehe). Working on the doors right now and getting ready to take the dash off for refinishing.

Ole Ruby is a rolling resto.
Original parts are out of range, but I try to maintain as much of the originallity as is possible based on time and funds.
Quarters are glass but all else OK.
Numbers match.
I kinda wish she had a straight axel verses the IRS regardless of the novelty, I think the overall handling that I would sacrifice would be made up for in maintenance.
I really like the Coopers we're runnin, and I'm a believer in tire balance, it makes all the difference in the corners.

The 64 Spitfire has had a frame off restoration in 1998-1999. It is still not quite complete. The 1966 Spit is a work in progress. The parts are scattered all over the house and town!I'm not sure either can be considered a restoration, since we have not restored the cars to original condition. The engines are incorrect- moving to the next size, switching to twin SUs for the 1500, and replacing the tired three rail transmissions with the later single rail with overdrive. Also, the colors are our choice rather the following the color code indicated on the serial number. Our 1966 Austin FX4 taxi's former owner repainted it and we done little more than keep in running. T.T.
