so i am starting the car (hood is off) and the car ran a few months ago but I noticed when I start it that the starter (?) is creatign little electrical lightning storms on the end where the black hole is. I am afraid I might catch a gas fume and kaboom...any advice here other than the obivous? I am assuming this is nOT normal!

Once the black hole has a lead in it which runs to the distributer which run to your spark plugs which run to the cylinders, that little lightning electrical storm will make your car run. It was doing what coils do.

ThANK YOU!! That wasmy next unposted question: looks like something was unplugged...must have been when i was working in there. I could nto find it last night but as soon as I read your reply I found the lead from the distributor which was off and put it back on. I LOVE THIS GROUP! thanks again!

You need to test it to make sure. Unplug the coil lead from the distributor and have an assistant place the lead on their tongue. Spin the motor over, if your assistant never speaks to you again, it's working correctly. :friendly_wink:

+1 and then get others to test each spark plug the same way. :D
