One barrel of crude oil is now selling for around $133 US dollars. The price in dollars was around $50 in January of 2007. Numbers: US DoE.

126% increase in a year and a half.

Gasoline here in the USA now averages around $3.79/gal. (taxes included). The average USA price in dollars was around $2.21 in January of 2007 (taxes included). Numbers: US DoE.

71% increase in a year and a half.

Wondered what the UK petrol price has done in the year and a half. Not the current price, but the *increase* in price.

Could any UK folks please comment on UK petrol price increases?

thanks.
Tom

Scott.........yowsa!!!!!!!!!! in perspective about
$170.00 U.S. bucks for a tank full....anybody wanna buy some cars???

and I'm even keepin' it powitacawally correct!!!

Scott - excellent source. Thanks!

Looks like UK unleaded is up 29% from January 2007 to May 08.

Compared to US where we're up 71%.

Interesting difference. Why is US gas going up faster?

Because they are both going up by the amount of the underlying increase in the raw material.

Actually a sad thought is that since European cars are (in the main) far more economical than American cars, they are probably paying LESS per mile for transportation now.

Uck I'm depressed - time to go out for a drive

Ok - Tom's getting his info (I hope).

There are a lot of reasons why things happen, and a lot of debate over it. Some of the economic reasons are complex, some are high-school economy 101 simple.

I'll leave it at that.

I've removed some posts that were clearly political opinions - never mind whether I agree with them or not.

Please keep the political opinions off the forum. Thinly disguising who you are talking about so as to make disparaging comments about them does not fly either.
