UK & Europe - We felt like Paulpers

It's always a pleasure to visit friends in Europe and the UK. So, when the opportunity arose to combine a business trip with a holiday, we were eager to travel. However, this past 2 weeks was an exercise in humility. Basically, our dollar is not worth very much. As an example, we have always enjoyed an English style Indian Tandori restaurant for delicious food on a tight budget. BUT, this time we paid approx. ₤32 ($64) for 2 dinners (including ₤4.50 for a pint of diet coke!!! – that $9.00). Not many souveneers for the kids and grand kids and certainly no TR parts. ( I did buy a couple of tubes of Hylomar - fairly cheap)

Actually the UK and parts of Europe are in a recession (Like US) The difference is that their goods are expensive outside their home markets. Our goods are cheap but we still have a recession - go figure!
You can’t put a price on the memories. Here are a few snaps of our trip.

Looks like our pumps here on the island.

I recently paid 111.7 penny/litre.........

but thankfully my pump's total was in $$ and NOT
in UK pounds sterling.

welcome home Frank!!

Last week, I paid over $4 per gallon. Today I paid $3.69. Hope that trend continues.

Yes - but only briefly. This was his fathers car, a 1948 K1, with a 4L , Flat Head Ford V8. This was 1 of only 139 K1 Allards produced. At one time he club raced the car at places like Silverstone and Castle Coomb.

Great pictures.
Of the Figaro too (and the rhd MX-5 next to it looks like a mirror image of mine).
I can only hope the pressure of gas prices will bring us some of the truly interesting Euro and Asian cars that we can't get here...especially some of their "three liter" cars (a rating of fuel economy; not engine displacement).

Many of my UK relatives relate how, even with the weak dollar, "normal" things still seem cheaper for us in the USA than their normal things in the UK do to them.

And I like that Allard.
~HERE~ is my friend, Bob Girvin's Allard. I was in a race with it a few weeks ago.
If you ever go to see the Lime Rock Vintage event around Labor Day, you'll see this car...he hasn't missed one yet.

I need to move. It's still $4.69 here.
Gas prices are NOT dropping off here either, more supprisingly .... No one except me seems to care!
Allards are neat cars. The body styles are eye catching at least to me.

That is one beautiful Allard!!! I just had occasion to visit the "left" coast of Fl. this weekend, where I found gas at $3.84/gal. compared to our prices on the "right" coast which are still hovering in the $4.09 - $4.14 range!!! Aren't regional pricing differences interesting!!! :eeek:

Prices here in Chicago are dropping but not quickly. I felt like I won the lottery when I paid 3.98 this weekend at Costco in the burbs. Station gas near home is about 4.25 still.

Someone please go back and "borrow" that steering wheel from that Allard. That is exactly what I want for my Jag! LoL Or perhaps help me find one that would be legal to keep?

$3.58 here in Loris, SC. Of course that was last night, could be $4.58 this morning!
